During this past Sunday's race at Talladega Superspeedway, Erik Jones of Legacy Motor Club was involved in a multi-car accident. He was then transported to UAB University Hospital.

On Tuesday, the NASCAR world received an update on Jones' health.

Jones has been diagnosed with a compression fracture in a lower vertebra. As a result, he'll have to miss this Sunday's race at Dover International Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson, the co-owner of Legacy Motor Club, released a statement on Jones' status.

"Erik's long-term health is our number one priority," said Johnson. "It will be great to see him at the track Sunday and we intend to give him the time it takes to recover properly. I know Corey will do a great job behind the wheel for the CLUB. In the meantime, our thoughts are with Erik and his wife Holly - they have our total support."

Legacy Motor Club has requested a waiver for Jones. If it's granted, he'll remain eligible for the Cup Series playoffs.

Corey Heim will take over the No. 43 Dollar Tree Toyota Camry for Legacy Motor Club.

Heim will be quite busy this weekend since he's also set to compete in this Saturday's Xfinity race. He's expected to drive the No. 26 car for Sam Hunt Racing.
