The transfer portal is one of the biggest parts of the college football offseason, and now that it is May, the spring window is closed. After losing head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL, the transfer portal became an instant threat to the Michigan football team this offseason. Any time a head coach leaves, there are always going to be departures. All the Wolverines could do is control the damage, and new head coach Sherrone Moore did a good job of that.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh accomplished his goal of winning a national championship with the Wolverines, but he hasn't won a Super Bowl yet. He has been close, and he is now with the Los Angeles Chargers working to achieve that goal.

Michigan football lost Jim Harbaugh, and a lot of his staff followed him to the NFL as well. Sherrone Moore is the new head coach for the Wolverines, and he did a good job early in the offseason with hires to fill out his staff. There have been obstacles, like two coaches arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, but Moore has his staff.

Not only did Michigan lose a lot from their coaching staff, but the majority of their starters from last season are gone, too. The Wolverines are coming off of a national championship, and that team was so good because of all the NFL talent that they had. Michigan had a chance to break the record for most players drafted by a single school at last week's NFL Draft, but they came up a few picks short. Still, they lost a lot of talent, and that made the transfer portal situation even more crucial.

The Wolverines did a good job controlling the damage. There were departures, but Michigan didn’t lose that many potential starters. The first window of the portal saw Keon Sabb leave for Alabama, and that one stung. However, the spring window wasn’t as bad. Here is the toughest transfer portal loss that the Wolverines suffered this spring.

Jeremiah Beasley, LB

Seeing Jeremiah Beasley hit the transfer portal was a huge surprise because he is going to be a true freshman for the 2024 season. He is a class of 2024 recruit and enrolled early with the Michigan football team. He was getting good reviews from his coaches during spring, but Beasley decided that he wants to test the waters elsewhere.

This was also a big surprise because of the fact that Jeremiah Beasley went to high school about 20 minutes away from the University of Michigan at Belleville High School.

Beasley was a four-star recruit out of high school as he was the #377 prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247 Sports. He was the #31 LB and the #8 player in the state of Michigan.

Now, Beasley is looking for a new home in the transfer portal, and he should be able to find a good home. He got a lot of attention from top schools as a recruit.

Beasley likely wasn’t going to play a big role as a true freshman, but he was expected to be a big contributor down the road for this Michigan football defense. This departure definitely stings.
