To call Michigan's 2024 college football season a frustrating one would be a massive understatement. After going 15-0 and winning the national title just 10 months ago, the team is struggling just to secure bowl eligibility under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore. Those struggles have continued against No. 8 Indiana today.

As they've done so many times this season, the Indiana Hoosiers have made things surprisingly difficult against a team they've historically struggled against. Following a punt on Indiana's opening drive that the Wolverines answered with a field goal, the Hoosiers reeled off back-to-back touchdown drives to take a 17-3 halftime lead. But an opportunity to carve into that lead early in the third quarter didn't go the way fans wanted.

After Zeke Berry intercepted Kurtis Rourke to set up the Wolverines at the Indiana 7-yard line, the Wolverines went three-and-out. But despite having the ball at the Indiana 3-yard line, Moore opted to send out the field goal unit rather than go for the more impactful touchdown. Kicker Dominic Zvada easily made the 22-yard chip shot, but that only made the game 17-6 in Indiana's favor.

Fans on social media have been ripping Moore for going for field goals rather than trying to go for the touchdown:

"More (expletive) play calling in the red zone. Michigan should've just kicked the field goal on first down. Coaching staff has no balls. Need some low T medication," one user remarked.

"Michigan is an actual joke. Kicking a field goal down 14 on the 3 yard line," wrote another.

"The year after a national title and Michigan is kicking sad field goals against Indiana. Life, it comes at you fast," a third wrote.

If it's any consolation, the Wolverines added another field goal on their ensuing drive and now trail just 17-9. One Michigan touchdown and two-point conversion puts them right back into this game.

The Wolverines entered the game as 14-point underdogs - one of their largest spreads against the Hoosiers in a non-pandemic year ever.

There's still one quarter left for Moore to prove that he knows what he's doing.

The game is being played on CBS.
