A popular men's magazine dipped its toe in the political waters earlier this week.

Although it's not exactly clear why, Maxim Magazine decided it was time to get into the political arena. A primarily digital platform, Maxim still produces a bi-monthly print copy for subscribers.

Instead of curating its usual content of scantily clad women, Maxim made headlines on Friday when it took a side in the political debate.

In a post on social media Maxim claimed that it was endorsing presidential candidate Donald Trump. "Maxim endorses Donald J. Trump for President," it said with a photo of Trump in a Lamborghini with a model on it.

The endorsement of Trump came after Maxim made a poll for its users where they were asked to choose between the former president and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. Over 2,100 votes were submitted and the overwhelming majority (59.1%) favored Trump, while only 40.9% preferred Harris.

In essence the Maxim readers were the one who endorsed Trump, not the actual magazine itself. However, the editor-in-chief of Maxim, billionaire Sardar Biglari, allegedly donated to the Trump campaign back in 2016, according to a report from left-leaning site Meidas News.

Obviously when a major publication like this takes a side in a political race it's going to drive headlines. That's exactly what Maxim's post did - and was likely intended to do.

The post itself received over seven million views on X - formerly Twitter - alone.
