Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook, will implement a new strategy this year that could lead to thousands of people losing their jobs.

The Meta CEO warned his employees that his company will push out "low performers" faster than usual. According to The Washington Post, this move could affect roughly 5 percent of his company. Zuckerberg shared this tough news in a memo. He claims the workers who end up getting pushed out the door will receive "generous severance." However, that's not exactly a selling point.

"I've decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out low-performers faster," Zuckerberg said. "We typically manage out people who aren't meeting expectations over the course of a year, but now we're going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle."

Unsurprisingly, Zuckerberg will replace the employees who are let go. With that said, he expects it to be an "intense year" for Meta.

Meta is expected to inform its employees who are on the bubble about the cuts in mid-February. This will take place after the company's performance reviews are completed.

Zuckerberg recently spoke about his company during an appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast. He talked about embracing "masculine energy" in the workplace.

"It's one thing to say we want to be kind of like welcoming and make a good environment for everyone and I think it's another to basically say that 'masculinity is bad,' and I just think we kind of swung culturally to that part of the – the kind of – the spectrum," Zuckerberg said, via the New York Post. "I think having a culture that celebrates the aggression a bit more has its own merits that are really positive."

Back in September, it was reported that Meta had 72,000 employees. If five percent of that group gets slashed, that would result in over 3,000 people losing their jobs.

There'll be plenty of eyes on this situation involving Meta, make no mistake about it.
