The Seattle Mariners take on the Minnesota Twins. Our MLB odds series has our Mariners Twins prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Mariners Twins.

The Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins both started the season slowly. The Mariners started their season 6-10, while the Twins stumbled to a 7-13 mark. These teams needed to make quick course corrections in order to give themselves a better-than-even chance of making the playoffs. They both responded in the latter half of April and have stabilized their seasons.

The Mariners have the best one-through-five starting pitching staff in Major League Baseball. Luis Castillo and Logan Gilbert get most of the attention, but their other starters have held up well and have contributed to a relentlessly consistent group which gives this team a chance to win nearly every night. The Mariners have their share of offensive weaknesses, but their starting pitching is so good that the margin for error is larger than it is for other teams with relatively limited offenses. Seattle has won 13 of its last 18 games and owns a slight lead over the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers in the American League West. With the Houston Astros a shocking 12-22 through 34 games, the Mariners’ playoff odds have skyrocketed over the past three weeks.

The Twins have been the biggest story in baseball over the past two weeks. Their 12-game winning streak was the talk of the sport. It finally came to an end on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox. The American League Central was the weakest division in baseball last year. Through the first weekend of May, four A.L. Central teams are above .500. We’re all waiting to see if this division can remain surprisingly tough and balanced. The Twins are part of that story.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners are sending staff ace Luis Castillo to the mound. The Mariners’ starting staff isn’t heavily reliant on Castillo since everyone is producing, but Castillo is the veteran presence who, as the season moves along, should be able to pace himself and make adjustments better than the younger starters in the rotation.

The Twins’ 12-game winning streak was undeniably impressive. It’s hard to win that many games in a row regardless of opponent. Yet, it has to be acknowledged that six of those 12 wins came against the lowly Chicago White Sox. Against better competition — and the Mariners qualify as such — the Twins are due for some regression.

Why The Twins Could Cover The Spread

The Twins finally played a bad game against the Red Sox on Sunday as their 12-game winning streak ended. You knew the streak was going to end at some point. It was inevitable that Minnesota was going to lose. If you were a bettor who didn’t want to pick the Twins precisely because you knew the streak was going to end, you now don’t have to refrain from picking the Twins for that reason. The pressure to maintain the streak is gone. Media scrutiny will be less intense. This team can now hit the reset button and play well again.

Final Mariners-Twins Prediction & Pick

The Mariners’ pitching is reliable, and the Twins’ big winning streak was indeed built on a lot of wins against the White Sox. Seattle seems to be the better team here. Take the Mariners.

Final Mariners-Twins Prediction & Pick: Mariners -1.5
