World Golf Hall of Famer Davis Love III recently underwent successful open heart surgery.
During Saturday's broadcast of the Farmers Insurance Open, Jim Nantz said Love was released from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville earlier that morning. The 60-year-old later confirmed he had surgery "to resolve a valve issue that my doctors had been monitoring for the last 10 years."
"The procedure was successful and I'm now at home recovering," Love III said in a statement, via the PGA Tour. "I went in healthy and came out healthier. I'm extremely grateful for all the well wishes, prayers, and messages I have received."
Love thanked the doctors who treated him and expressed hope to return later this year.
"I'm grateful for them and their teams' expertise and care, and I am motivated to prove them right and get back to playing golf by this summer!"
According to Nantz, Davis said he hopes to be "driving in March" and "putting in April."
"Just thankful to hear he's doing just fine," Nantz said. "One of the most beloved guys in the game of golf."
Love has won 21 PGA Tour tournaments during his decorated career. He earned his lone major when winning the 1997 PGA Championship by five strokes. The Georgia resident also finished second in the 1995 and 1999 Masters Tournaments.
Love captained the U.S. Ryder Cup teams in 2012 and 2016. In between those competitions, he won the 2015 Wyndham Championship at age 51. Additionally, Love briefly worked as a CBS Sports analyst in 2020.
Our best wishes go out to Love in hopes of making a speedy recovery.
