When it was announced that Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau would team up to face Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in "The Showdown," golf fans rejoiced.

There has been so much bad blood between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour over the past two years. The idea of each league's best pairing going head-to-head sounded like a dream, especially since all four players had sharp 2024 seasons. Despite how impossible it seemed, TNT was able to put together a showcase where they'd compete at Shadow Creek Golf Course in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Unfortunately, "The Showdown" has not lived up to the hype. So far, the product has been pretty dull to say the least.

For starters, it's weird seeing DeChambeau, Koepka, McIlroy and Scheffler compete under the lights. That's not what golf fans are accustomed to from a viewing standpoint. The commentary for TNT hasn't been as entertaining as it's been in the past for previous star-studded matches.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that none of these players are trash-talking each other. In the past, TNT's matches have featured athletes from other sports, like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, on the course. They were more than happy to throw shade at each other.

With all that being said, sports fans around the world voiced their complaints with "The Showdown" on TNT.

"This match is pretty boring," a golf fan said.

Another golf fan tweeted, "The Scottie/Rory vs. Brooks/Bryson game looks miserable and not fun."

"These #TheShowdown type matches are always trash," one user wrote on X. "They're 5% golf and 95% listening to people tell Charles Barkley how fat he is."

"Holy snooze fest is #TheShowdown. Need the Big Cat badly. Cat and Charlie would be better TV for sure," another person commented.

The real proof will be in the TV ratings. If they're strong, TNT may want to run it back with four professional golfers. And if not, the network may have Tom Brady on speed dial to see if he wants another shot at glory.
