Over the weekend comedian Tony Hinchcliffe found himself in hot water for a few troublesome jokes he made during a Donald Trump rally at Madison Square Garden.

During his set, Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating pile of garbage" and likened Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to the late O.J. Simpson. The 40-year-old comedian took plenty of heat for his comments and might even lose a major sponsorship in the process.

But not everyone thinks he should be on trial.

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 02: Comedian and activist Jon Stewart speaks at a press conference in support of "Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2021" in the House Triangle outside of the U.S. Capitol Building on March 2, 2022 in Washington, DC. The Act seeks to fulfill the nation's responsibility to provide health care and disability compensation to veterans battling the effects of toxic exposure connected to their military service. Comedian and late night host Jon Stewart thinks everyone is overreacting to the comments - from a comedian.

"Obviously, in retrospect, having a roast comedian come to a political rally a week before election day and roasting a key demographic...probably not the best decision by the campaign politically, but to be fair, the guy's just really doing what he does," he joked on his show, via Yahoo.

He went on to play clips from Hinchcliffe's appearance on Tom Brady's roast and made it clear he believes the comedian is legitimately funny.

"Yes, yes, of course, terrible, boo. There's something wrong with me. I find that guy very funny," he said. "I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you. I mean, bringing him to a rally and having him not do roast jokes? That'd be like bringing Beyoncé to a rally and not…."

The last comment came in response to Kamala Harris having Beyonce at a rally - and not having her perform, but instead deliver a speech.
