The 2024 NFL Thanksgiving Day Game Matchups Ranked (1:10)

The Dallas Cowboys will play their traditional Thanksgiving Day game on Thursday against the New York Giants. Dallas is coming off a big win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday, but it's been a difficult season for the team.

The Cowboys had lost five straight games before Sunday's victory over Washington, and they also lost quarterback Dak Prescott for the season with a torn hamstring.

Prescott's season-ending injury came at a pivotal time for the team, and he also suffered it after being given the most lucrative contract in NFL history.

One former Cowboys head coach gave his opinion on Prescott, and he didn't hold back about what he thinks the quarterback deserves.

Former Cowboys coach, Hall of Famer and current analyst said that he would not have paid Prescott before the start of the season.

"I would never have given Prescott a new contract. I'd have let him play it out. He's the highest-paid player in the league, he's not the best player in the league," Johnson said on FOX Sports' "The Herd."

"They're [the Cowboys] so financially strapped right now. I don't know what they do. They talk about changing coaches, but I don't know if changing coaches is going to help them. Mike McCarthy is a good coach."

The Cowboys will have to make a decision on how to handle McCarthy's future, but they're tied to Prescott (at a high price) for the next few years.

The 2024 season didn't go according to plan, but when healthy, Prescott has been an elite quarterback in many ways. He nearly won the MVP award for the first time in his career last season, and is among the league leaders in multiple categories over the last few seasons.

The Cowboys will look to establish a new winning streak (and potentially salvage their season) with a win over another NFC East opponent in the New York Giants.

The Cowboys-Giants matchup is one of three games on Thanksgiving day, joining Lions-Bears and a nightcap of Packers-Dolphins.

We'll see what happens when those six teams take the field on one of the NFL's most anticipated days on the national calendar.
