Jets Insider Names 'Team To Watch' For Garrett Wilson Trade

Reports have emerged that New York Jets star wide receiver Garrett Wilson doesn't want to re-sign with the team due to their persistent losing. And while Jets fans can complain all they want, the reality is that for the right offer, anything can happen.
According to Jets insider Connor Hughes of SNY, there's one team to watch in the Wilson sweepstakes: The Houston Texans. Wilson was Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud's top receiver while he was quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes back in 2021. The two would both wind up winning Rookie of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons.
But Hughes also pointed out that the Jets will likely have a lot of control over where Wilson goes. He recalled the controversial 2020 trade that sent All-Pro safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks thanks to a deal that then-general manager Joe Douglas was "blown away" by. Hughes said that the Jets are "fully prepared" to keep Wilson.
"Texans would be a team I'd watch, but important to remember control NYJ have. Like when Jamal Adams requested/wanted out: Move was only made because Joe Douglas was blown away. They were fully prepared to keep him. Fourth year + fifth year option + franchise tag," Hughes wrote.

Through three seasons, Wilson has been one of the rising stars among young NFL receivers. He's had over 1,000 receiving yards on some truly terrible offenses between 2022 and 2023, and he's currently just 67 yards away from a third-straight 1,000-yard season with three games left to play.
However, as Hughes also pointed out, the Jets still have time to reach a new deal with him. Once the Jets pick up his fifth-year option this coming offseason, he'll be under contract with the team for at least two more seasons and can even franchise tag him after the fifth.
That would explain why Jets fans in the comments appear to confident that the trade buzz is a non-story:
"What are we doing here? He should be the most untouchable guy on the whole team. This conversation is inane. Adams was a friggin Safety," one user declared.
"Texans when they have Nico, diggs (free agent Ik but prob keeping him) and tank dell .. makes no sense," wrote another.
"They can double tag them why are we even wasting time with this. Fanbase needs to stop being losers man," a third remarked.
Does Wilson have a long-term future with the Jets, or could the Texans swoop in and get him?
