Meet Deion Sanders' Future R&B Singer Son-In-Law (1:28)

The Deion Sanders to Dallas rumors are about to skyrocket. The two sides have spoken, according to the latest report.

The Cowboys are in need of a new head coach after parting ways with Mike McCarthy on Monday. Sanders has been connected to the role on sports talk shows and in the media for some time now, well before McCarthy's tenure came to an end. The University of Colorado head coach has said in the past he doesn't want to coach in the pros, but recently changed his tune somewhat.

Whatever Sanders is thinking, the Cowboys want to know firsthand. According to Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz, owner Jerry Jones has already spoken with Sanders about the job,

"#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken with Colorado HC Deion Sanders about the team's head coaching vacancy, and discussions are expected to continue regarding the possibility of him becoming the next head coach in Dallas," Schultz tweeted. "Coach Prime is considered a top candidate, though the Cowboys plan to interview other candidates as part of the process, per team sources."

Schultz added that there is "mutual interest" between the two sides, and they will keep in contact.

After a successful tenure at Jackson State, Sanders was hired as head coach in Boulder following the 2022 season. He went 4-8 in his debut in 2023, but improved to 9-4 with an Alamo Bowl berth this past season.

Deion has said he'd consider coaching in the NFL under the condition he'd be able to coach both of his sons, who just finished their final collegiate seasons at Colorado. Shedeur Sanders, a quarterback, is in contention to be the No. 1 overall pick, while Shilo, a safety, could be a late round pick or priority free agent.

As far as the possibility of Deion's star power conflicting with Jerry Jones', ESPN's Stephen A. Smith doesn't think it will be a problem.

"Stop right there. Deion doesn't want to be the star. He is," Smith said Monday. "There's a difference. He is. He doesn't have to pursue it. He doesn't have to crave it. It is wherever he goes. So if you're Jerry Jones and you're talking to everybody, it don't affect Deion. It's not going to stop Deion from getting his shine, because he's magnetic."

Buckle up.
