The Dallas Cowboys are looking to fill their head coaching vacancy over the coming days, and there are several candidates for the position. From Deion Sanders to Pete Carroll, there has been no shortage of interesting names floated to be Mike McCarthy's successor.
With the situation still uncertain, one of the league's most prominent reporters recently hinted that a candidate could get the Dallas job.
"I have no intel telling me a Cowboys HC announcement is coming in the next few hours other than the fact I have just sat down to get my hair done which takes 3.5 hours," said Jane Slater of the NFL Network.
"So fully expect it to happen because of that and don't be surprised when it's Schotty. Carry on," she added, mentioning current Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer would be an internal promotion, while candidates like Sanders would come from outside of the organization. Given Jerry Jones' tendency to want as much control over the franchise as possible, a coach who is familiar with the system and those who play in it could be very valuable.
The Cowboys are looking for a new head coach after Mike McCarthy's departure, and Schottenheimer has worked with many of the players that he used to coach.
He helped the team avoid a truly disastrous season by working with backup quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Trey Lance this year, and would continue to work with Dak Prescott after he returns from his injury.
The Cowboys won the NFC East in 2023, but their triumph came before the emergence of another powerhouse in their division. The Washington Commanders are now one game away from the Super Bowl, and they're another team the Cowboys will have to contend with in a very competitive division.
The team's next head coach will need to be prepared for what's to come in the NFC East after they take the job, as the Dallas head coaching position is - for better or worse - one of the most high-profile jobs in sports.
With the potential for so much scrutiny and criticism from fans and analysts alike, we'll see which candidate emerges as the team's pick for its new leader.
