Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish flexed their muscles on the opening drive of the national title game. That being said, it's been all Ohio State since that sequence.

Ohio State scored 21 unanswered points to take a commanding 14-point lead at the end of the first half. One of the big concerns for Notre Dame is its third-down defense. The Fighting Irish haven't stopped the Buckeyes once on third down. We're not kidding. Ryan Day's squad has picked up a first down on all six of its third-down plays. That's a recipe for disaster on defense.

Before Notre Dame went into the locker room at halftime, Freeman spoke to ESPN's Molly McGrath about his team's performance. Obviously, he wasn't very pleased with what he saw.

Freeman seemed so upset with his team's performance that he couldn't even think straight during his interview with McGrath.

Fans thought Freeman's halftime interview was so uninspiring that this national title game might be over before the second half even kicks off.

"Marcus Freeman looks defeated," one fan wrote.

"Marcus Freeman is shook," a second fan tweeted.

Another fan said, "Marcus Freeman's mind is in the blender after that first half, tough interview."

"I don't know if it's possible for Marcus Freeman to sound more discouraged than he just was during the halftime interview," a fourth person commented.

ESPN.

Ohio State quarterback Will Howard had a flawless first half, completing 14-of-15 pass attempts for 144 yards with two touchdowns. If Notre Dame is going to make things interesting in the second half, Freeman's defense needs to get a quick stop to start the third quarter.

Notre Dame will also need to have some form of success in the passing game. That's easier said than done though.

The second half of the national championship will be televised on ESPN.
