George Stephanopoulos has been a fixture on American television for decades. Many know him as the longtime host of ABC's "This Week," where he interviews various political figures while discussing current events and affairs.
Stephanopoulos is also an anchor on Good Morning America, joining former New York Giants star and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan as well as legendary journalist Robin Roberts.
Stephanopoulos has been a key figure at ABC since the early 2000s, but another personality at the network is prepared for the veteran to leave his position sooner rather than later.
According to Page Six, Stephanopoulos' colleague and co-host on "This Week," Jonathan Karl, wants the long-time host "gone."
"He wants the show, and he sees [ABC's Trump settlement] as an opportunity," a source told Page Six.
In December, Stephanopoulos and ABC News agreed to pay President-elect Donald Trump $16 million as part of a settlement in a defamation lawsuit.
$15 million of the money will go to a "Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for [Trump], as Presidents of the United States of America have established in the past," while the remaining $1 million will cover the President-elect's legal fees.
"There are people who want George replaced, and it's hard for him to do a political show right now…. His greatest strength is politics, but how is he going to cover Donald Trump?," the source told Page Six.
The source also says that Karl wants Stephanopoulos off the show so he can host it with Martha Raddatz, but another source tells the outlet he wants the entire show to himself.
"Martha? Jon wants the show for himself! The bench has been ready to go for years. [The attitude has been] when is [Stephanopoulos] going to step aside, and why are there three hosts for a single show?," the source added.
ABC News has denied the rumor, stating that Karl and Stephanopoulos "have a friendly and mutually respectful relationship."
Stephanopoulos appears on "This Week" once a month, but his name is still included in the show's official title. He is on "GMA" five days a a week with Strahan and Roberts, and has held that position since 2009.
