Top 5 Most Surprising Super Bowl MVPs (1:49)

Despite winning the Super Bowl MVP award and the NFL receiving Triple Crown a mere three years ago, former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp doesn't appear to be moving through free agency all that quickly.

But Kupp's ongoing unemployment may have less to do than a lack of interest in him and more with his own overconfidence. According to The Athletic NFL insider Dianna Russini, Kupp's asking price has "been a hold-up" for teams that are interested in him.

Per the report, Kupp is seeking $13-14 million per year. It's a number that teams seem unwilling to pay despite his history.

"Cooper Kupp's asking price has been a hold-up for a number of interested teams, per sources. Some suitors have not been willing to offer Kupp a $13-14 million contract," Russini wrote.

You can hardly blame NFL teams for wanting to maximize their value on a contract. But you also can't blame them for lacking confidence in Kupp.

Since his incredible 2021 season, injuries have limited Kupp to just 33 games. He's missed at least five games in each of the last three seasons.

NFL fans agree and have basically said as much to Russini in the comments of her post on X:

"say what??? Dude needs to prove he can stay healthy... NOBODY IS PAYING THAT," one user remarked.

"No surprise bc if they were willing to pay 13-14 million a year, they would have simply traded a 7th rounder for him when he was with the rams," wrote another.

"Price tag too high," a third said.

"That's understandable Dianna. That's too much for an injury prone player."

Russini reported this morning that the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks rank among the most interested teams in his services. Both have Super Bowl ambitions and a serious need for a No. 2 receiver with experience as a No. 1 receiver.

"Star wide receiver Cooper Kupp is expected to decide Friday on his next home, and two teams — the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks — are very interested, league sources said," Russini reported this morning.

We will just have to see who blinks first now.
