Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord ended his 2024 season on a major high note on Friday.
McCord broke the ACC's single-season passing record by finishing the season with 4,779 yards through the air. McCord lit up Washington State in the Holiday Bowl, finishing with 453 passing yards and five touchdowns in Syracuse's 52-35 win.
The win got Syracuse to 10 wins for the first time since 2018 when the program also finished with a 10-3 record. This season was Fran Brown's first as head coach and he has set up the program for a lot of future success.
In addition to throwing for 4,779 yards, McCord also racked up 34 touchdowns and a 66% completion percentage. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season after transferring from Ohio State and is fighting to be eligible to play for another season in 2025.
Washington State had a 21-14 lead entering the second quarter before Syracuse scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 35-21 lead into halftime. Syracuse then outscored Washington State 17-14 in the second half to win by three scores.
This was only Syracuse's second winning season in the last six seasons but progress is clearly being made.
While McCord isn't at Ohio State anymore, his former program is set to play in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff against Oregon on January 1 in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State beat Tennessee in the first round of the CFP by 25, 42-17.
The winner of that game will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the Arizona State-Texas game, which also takes place on January 1 (New Year's Day).
