Coaches Who Left The NFL To Coach College (1:37)

Mike McCarthy wasted no time moving on from the Dallas Cowboys. The Super Bowl-winning coach has at least two NFC teams interested in his services.

Shortly after McCarthy agreed to part ways with the Cowboys, he landed an interview with the Chicago Bears. ESPN's Adam Schefter described McCarthy as a "legitimate candidate" for the job opening in the Windy City. After all, he'd give the franchise some much-needed stability. Let's also not forget that he usually gets the best out of his quarterbacks. In the event the Bears hire him to be their head coach, there's a good chance he'll unlock Caleb Williams' full potential.

If the Bears want McCarthy though, they'll have to beat out the competition.

According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the New Orleans Saints are scheduling an in-person interview with McCarthy.

"The Saints are setting up an in-person interview with Mike McCarthy, per source. Logistics are still being set. Weather and all that has to be worked around, but goal is this week," Underhill said.

It's no surprise that McCarthy is on the Saints' radar. He has history with general manager Mickey Loomis since they were both part of the franchise 2000-2004. At that time, McCarthy was the offensive coordinator in New Orleans.

We're not entirely sure if McCarthy is the right coach to lead the Saints as they enter a rebuild, but they would at least give him job security. The Saints gave Dennis Allen nearly three seasons before pulling the plug. And if we're being honest, he only got canned because his message got stale amid the team's seven-game losing streak.

Of course, McCarthy isn't the only contender for the job in New Orleans.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is a strong candidate to become the next head coach of the Saints. It also appears Anthony Weaver of the Miami Dolphins and Mike Kafka of the New York Giants are in play.

It'll be fascinating to see how this coaching search plays out for the Saints. And yet, it'll be even more interesting to see who replaces McCarthy in Dallas.
