During competition on Friday night gymnast Kayla DiCello suffered a brutal injury that will keep her from competing in the Olympics in Paris this summer.

"Kayla DiCello injured her Achilles in tonight's competition and will be unable to compete in Olympic Trials. We wish her the best in her recovery!" USA Gymnastics said in a statement.

Video showed DiCello land and immediately knew something was wrong.

Fans flocked to social media to show her support.

"This is horrible. The body was weird ways of betraying you. Hopefully, she will be back on the mat in 2028. Praying for a safe and speedy recovery," one person said.

"these girls are so [expletive] strong that they're almost never crying about the physical pain, but the frustration of their dreams being ruined. devastated for Kayla but playfully she'll return badder and better than ever soon," added another.

"Just when i thought this was finally her year speedy recovery kayla," offered a third.

DiCello served as a reserve for the Olympics in Tokyo, but had her sights set on Paris as a competitor this year.

"I was like, 'I think I want to go for 2024, I want to go to the Olympics, because… I'm very grateful that I was an Olympic alternate at 2021, but I wasn't satisfied with that," she said, announcing her goals for 2024. "I wanted to go back and do everything that I could so I can make this team."

Hopefully DiCello makes a full recovery and can be back in competition in the near future.
