Michigan's NCAA Football Cheating Scandal Explained (1:20)

In a recruiting coup that may not only save his job but the entire Michigan football program, Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore secured the biggest commitment of his career by flipping 2025 five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood from LSU to his program. But he may have had some help from a familiar face.

After news broke that Underwood would be committing to LSU, many users quickly pointed out that former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions recently took up a job working at Underwood's Belleville High School in Michigan for the team's playoff run.

Stalions was the staffer who was accused of sign-stealing in a controversy that cost Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh three games during last year's national championship season. But while he was ousted from Ann Arbor, he has continued coaching at the high school level.

At the time, fans joked that Stalions was likely trying to recruit Underwood to his beloved Wolverines. But the joke's on them now.

"We have never seen anything like Connor Stalions," one user remarked on X after the news broke.

"Even in exile, Connor Stalions keeps helping Michigan," Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel joked.

"Connor Stalions is keeping the Michigan program alive," wrote a third.

A bunch of fans are even calling for Michigan to build a statue to their former staffer.

Ohio State fans, meanwhile, are most likely breaking out the Jesse Pinkman meme from that iconic scene in Breaking Bad:

247Sports rates Underwood as the No. 1 overall prospect, as do most other recruiting outlets. For good reason too.

Between 2021 and 2023, Underwood threw for nearly 9,000 yards and 120 touchdowns while scoring another 21 touchdowns on the ground. He's exactly the kind of dynamic, playmaking quarterback that the Wolverines need - particularly in a conference like the Big Ten.

Whether Connor Stalions played a major role in Underwood's commitment or not, the Wolverines got it over the finish line and may very well have their long-term answer at quarterback once he arrives in 2025.
