Brittney Griner sat down with Robin Roberts of "Good Morning America" to discuss her time behind bars in Russia. Although the full interview hasn't been released yet, brief clips from their conversation were shared by ABC this Tuesday.

Griner admit she thought her life was over when she realized there were vape cartridges in her luggage. She also detailed her inhumane living situation while at a Russian penal colony.

"The mattress had a huge blood stain on in," Griner told Roberts. "I had no soap, no toilet paper. That was the moment where I just felt less than a human. I just didn't think I could get through what I needed to get through."

Thankfully, Griner is back in the United States and doing what she can to make a difference - on and off the basketball court. Over the past year, she has been an advocate for freeing Americans who are wrongfully detained overseas.

Unsurprisingly, sports fans around the country are applauding Griner for having the courage to open up about her journey.

"This is definitely going to be a tear-jerker," one person commented. "So glad she can tell her story."

"Getting thrown in Russian prison for a vape pen is straight up nightmare material," a second person said. "Incredible strength to get through a situation like that and thrive on the other side."

"This was SO brave and courageous to relive this and open up for the world to hear," an Instagram user wrote. "I hope this brought you some level of catharsis and closure."

"Tears. Powerful. She has a story of survival in more ways than one," another person replied. "You are helping her and others to fight through the toughest battles this life throws at us. This is what it's about. Thank you both."

The full interview between Griner and Roberts will air on May 1.
