The first College Football Playoff semifinal is being played tonight between Notre Dame and Penn State.

As expected, this matchup at the Orange Bowl has been a defensive battle. At halftime, the Nittany Lions lead 10-3, thanks to a 15-play, 90-yard touchdown drive capped off by a Nicholas Singleton scoring run. Penn State has outgained Notre Dame 194-122, limiting the Irish to only 15 rushing yards on 13 carries and clearly looking like the better team so far.

Even so, there are some observers who aren't impressed with either team at the moment. More than a few have expressed the opinion on social media that the winner of tomorrow's Cotton Bowl between Texas and Ohio State will win the national championship.

"Are these two of the best teams in the country?" asked Buckeye Huddle's Kevin Noon.

"Nope and that's why the winner of the Texas-Ohio State game is winning it all," one person responded.

"I've seen enough out of these two teams to crown the winner out of Texas and Ohio State game the National Champion !!" a Florida fan said.

"What I'm learning tonight… The winner of Ohio State-Texas wins the National Championship," said WKYC-TV's Nick Camino.

"The winner of Ohio State vs Texas is winning the whole damn thing. Neither of these offenses have the juice to keep up with either & their defenses are on par with ND and PSU," a fifth person said.

"Game is boring. I feel the winner of Ohio state and Texas will blow either one of these two out," added someone else.

If we're being honest, the Ohio State-Texas winner is going to be favored over whoever wins tonight's game. However, that doesn't necessarily mean Penn State or Notre Dame couldn't beat them in a one-game setting.

We'll have to wait until Jan. 20 to find out for sure.

In the meantime, you can watch the second half of Notre Dame-Penn State on ESPN.
