The Aaron Rodgers saga goes on, but one team may remain in the driver's seat to sign him.

Released by the New York Jets earlier this month, Rodgers continues to explore his options this offseason. With a seemingly short supply of suitors, one still stands out as the most logical landing spot if the quarterback returns for another season.

On Saturday night's SportsCenter, Jeremy Fowler said Steelers brass had an "exploratory" meeting with Rodgers on Friday. They're "aggressively pursuing" Rodgers, who remains their preferred quarterback option.

Fowler discussed the Rodgers situation again on Sunday morning. He reiterated those points when predicting that the four-time MVP will go to Pittsburgh.

"They weren't talking brass tacks as far as a contract, but they've already made a standing offer out to him," Fowler said, according to On3's Dan Morrison. "So I'm going to go Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers if I had to predict because I just simply believe that the team is aggressive here. He's their number one choice."

Fowler also said the New Giants could still pursue Rodgers or Russell Wilson after signing Jameis Winston to a two-year deal.

"But reading the tea leaves here, it looks like the Steelers are in pole position to potentially get this done," Fowler said.

Last year, the Steelers overhauled their quarterback room by trading Kenny Pickett, signing Wilson to a one-year contract, and acquiring Justin Fields. The Jets signed Fields to replace Rodgers, so Pittsburgh has a clear vacancy under center.

The Steelers brought back longtime reserve Mason Rudolph, but they presumably want another starter to stay afloat as perennial playoff contenders. Although no longer a superstar, Rodgers may still represent the best short-term option.

In his return from a torn Achilles, Rodgers accrued 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and a 90.5 quarterback rating. He ended a 5-12 season by throwing his 500th career touchdown pass in a Week 18 win over the Miami Dolphins.

With the Minnesota Vikings focusing on J.J. McCarthy, the Steelers probably provide Rodgers' only path back to the postseason. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh may need Rodgers or Wilson to maintain Mike Tomlin's streak of never overseeing a losing record.
