Top 5 Coaches The Jets Should Hire (1:23)

The New York Jets entered the 2024 season with high hopes and a healthy Aaron Rodgers.

Six weeks in and Rodgers is still in the lineup, but New York is only 2-4 after last night's loss to the Buffalo Bills. Following a win over the New England Patriots on Sept. 19, the Jets have dropped consecutive games to Broncos, Vikings and Bills to fall two games out of first place in the AFC East. With this morning's trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver and Rodgers associate Davante Adams, there's a little bit of renewed optimism around Gang Green, but the Jets need to start winning--immediately.

According to the latest ESPN FPI projections, things will get better for the Jets, though a playoff berth seems out of reach. New York's projected record is 8.3-8.6 or 8-9, per the ESPN computer.

For those unfamiliar, FPI is meant to be forward-looking, described as "a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season."

The Jets head on the road this Sunday night to face a Pittsburgh Steelers team that has one of the league's fiercest defenses but will breaking in Russell Wilson at quarterback in his first start of the season.

Softer matchups against the New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars lie ahead, but the Jets have not done a good job of handling their business in winnable games so far this season.

They will have to do a much better job of that going forward. Otherwise, the franchise's record-long playoff drought will reach 14 years.
