ESPN Announcer Kirk Herbstreit Gets Accused Of Being A 'Sellout'

Kirk Herbstreit managed to tick off a bunch of college football fans this weekend.
Herbstreit angered some Ohio State fans with his comments about Ryan Day, but he also rankled Indiana fans, and some neutral observers, with his comments about the Hoosiers. Following Indiana's 27-17 loss to Notre Dame on Friday night, Herbstreit lamented that the Hoosiers didn't deserve a spot in the College Football Playoff field because their 11-1 regular season schedule lacked quality wins.
"The atmosphere was historic. The game was not, you know," Herbstreit said. "And I'm not going to sit here and say, 'Why was Indiana in?' But Indiana, with what you guys like to talk about, 'They have 11 wins. They've gotta be one of the best teams.' Indiana was outclassed in that game. It was not a team that should've been on that field when you consider other teams that could've been there."
IU supporters and even some fans of other programs heard Herbstreit's words, and didn't appreciate them, accusing him of "selling out" to pump up the SEC, which had three 9-3 teams (Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina) on the outside of the playoff looking in.
"Kirk Herbstreit just went on SportsCenter and with the Tennessee-OSU final score displayed on the screen, he continued to hammer his argument that the committee should focus on who you've beaten vs how many wins you have. What a sellout POS," an IU fan said.
"'Someone from a real conference would have shown up better than Tennessee- Kirk Herbstreit if he was logically consistent and not an absolute sellout," a BYU fan added.
"Herbstreit a sellout lmaooo," a third person added.
"Why are people surprised or even upset at this? @KirkHerbstreit is clearly bought and paid for. He's parroting a company line. He has sold out. It's like being surprised a politician lies," a Florida State fan chimed in.
Herbstreit is used to this type of criticism, so it's not going to bother him. If we're being honest, this isn't the last time people will be tweeting this about him this season either.
