The days of Drew Brees carrying the New Orleans Saints are long gone. That being said, the future Hall of Famer believes there's a coaching candidate out there who can lead the franchise back to the promised land.

After starting off 2-7 this season, the Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen. He was replaced by special terms coordinator Darren Rizzi, who went 3-5 as the interim coach. With the offseason already here for New Orleans, the front office is conducting a search for its next head coach. So far, the Saints have requested interviews with a plethora of candidates including but not limited to Mike Vrabel, Kellen Moore and Joe Brady.

Brees talked about his former team's search for a new coach during an interview with Crissy Floyd of Saints Wire. Although he doesn't have a vote, his top pick for head coach is none other than Aaron Glenn.

"Spoke to Drew Brees today on the state of the Saints and their coaching search. He named Aaron Glenn as his top pick for head coach," Floyd said.

Brees told Saints Wire that Glenn is a "leader of men" who would bring a competitive mindset to New Orleans.

"The first guy who comes to my mind is Aaron Glenn," Brees said. "Arguably, one of the greatest defensive backs to ever play the game. I played against him, I was a teammate of his too. He's a leader of men. He garners a ton of respect. He knows the game. He is highly competitive."

Glenn, the current defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, has history with the Saints as a player and coach. He played for the Saints in 2008 before becoming their defensive backs coach in 2016.

The Saints have already requested permission to speak with Glenn. Several NFL insiders have mentioned him as the favorite for the job. Of course, things could change.

Glenn, 52, actually interviewed for the Saints' head-coaching vacancy during the 2022 offseason. The job ultimately went to Allen. Maybe the Saints will make things right this time around.

For what it's worth, Glenn is expected to have multiple suitors this offseason. The Chicago Bears and New York Jets have expressed interest in Detroit's defensive play-caller.
