The Detroit Lions lost to the Buffalo Bills, 48-42, at Ford Field on Sunday. In the process, they lost two key players to season-ending injuries.
Detroit remains in good shape, at 12-2 on the year, but the team's defense took a big hit on Sunday afternoon. The Lions have lost two key players to season-ending injuries.
The Lions announced on Monday morning that both cornerback Khalil Dorsey (fractured leg) and defensive lineman Alim McNeill (torn ACL) will be out for the year.
It's a crushing blow to Dan Campbell's team as it gets ready for the final stretch of the regular season and the start of the postseason.
Dorsey suffered the leg fracture on a nasty collision with a teammate toward the goal line. McNeill suffered the torn ACL during a play in the fourth quarter. Both players were immediately ruled out for the game.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport noted: "Add in the fractured leg for DB Khalil Dorsey ... Just a brutal day for the #Lions defense."
Those weren't the only injuries suffered, either. Lions defensive back Carlton Davis suffered a fractured jaw. He will be out for at least six weeks, meaning it's possible that he could return for the playoffs, though that wouldn't be until mid or late January.
The Lions are going to need others to step up in the final weeks of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.
