Deion Sanders has emerged as a potential candidate for the Dallas Cowboys, but there have been conflicting reports about his desire to coach in the NFL. Judging by the latest report, there's a real chance he'll leave Colorado for the pros.

NFL reporter Ed Werder reported Thursday that Sanders would become the next head coach of the Cowboys if he's offered the job. He said, "I'm being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers to make him the next Cowboys head coach, that those around him are encouraging him to pursue it and that Jones is enamored with the idea." Before people dismiss this report, just know that Werder has been covering "America's Team" for decades.

This report from Werder would dismiss the notion that Sanders is still anti-NFL when it comes to coaching. And thanks to ESPN's Adam Schefter we already know that "Coach Prime" isn't using the Cowboys as leverage for a new contract from Colorado.

"I can't help but think about 16-17 months ago I had an NFL general manager call me up and say, 'I want you to write this right now. The next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys will be Deion Sanders. Take it to the bank because of the respect that exists between Deion Sanders and Jerry Jones.' A lot of people out there now are saying that Deion Sanders is using this as a leverage ploy to get more money from Colorado," Schefter said. "I brought that up to Deion Sanders. He said, 'That ain't true, and I don't need any negotiating ploy. I'm me.' And that's how he feels. He doesn't need any negotiating ploy."

Now that we've pieced all this information together, it's fair to label Sanders as real contender for the job in Dallas.

Of course, it'll all come down to Jones and how much he's willing to spend for a coach. If he wants Sanders, he'll have to pay his $10 million buyout.

Sanders isn't the only name being linked to the Cowboys. They're expected to interview Leslie Frazier, Kellen Moore and Robert Saleh. There has also been some chatter about them taking a hard look at former tight end Jason Witten.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reported Tuesday that Jones pitched Mike McCarthy the idea of adding Witten to his staff as his "heir apparent." McCarthy ultimately decided to leave Dallas behind.

It'll be fascinating to see who Jones hires when it's all said and done. There's no question that Sanders would generate the most buzz to Dallas.
