Deion Sanders Doesn't Hold Back On Bill Belichick's Chances In College

If there's one person supremely qualified to detail the challenges that Bill Belichick may have of becoming a college football head coach with limited experience in the space, it's Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
Like Belichick, Sanders has similarly been tasked with turning around not one, but two college football programs despite having limited experience as even an assistant before taking the job. But there's no denying his success, leading Jackson State and Colorado out of the muck and back into respectability.
Appearing on The Pacman Jones Show, Coach Prime spoke glowingly about Belichick, who he played against many times during his years in the NFL. He asserted that Belichick's substantial NFL success might actually make the North Carolina job an easier one for Belichick than an NFL job.
"Bill Belichick is Bill Belichick," he said. "The track record stands alone. No one in the NFL has accomplished what he's accomplished. Making that translate to college football, I feel like that's an easier role to come to college football and have success than it is to rekindle that fire he had in New England."
Sanders added that he is a friend of Belichick and is happy to see the eight-time Super Bowl champion giving the college ranks a try.
"I love Coach Belichick, man," he added. "I'm a fan and not only that, I like to be known as a friend of Coach Belichick. I love what he's doing, I'm happy about it."
The biggest criticism that Belichick has received by far is how his demeanor and how his gruff and blunt nature may not be as appealing to recruits and parents as it might be in the NFL.
But it doesn't seem to be stopping the North Carolina Tar Heels just yet. In the days since Belichick was announced as the team's head coach they have already picked up several players via the NCAA transfer portal.
The good news for Belichick is that he doesn't exactly have a monumental task ahead of him. Unlike the programs that Sanders took over, Belichick's program has been bowl eligible in each of the last six seasons and has developed a number of solid quarterbacks in that span.
Suffice it to say, Belichick isn't exactly building something from the ground up, just continuing the work of former head coach Mack Brown while adding his own flair.
Will Belichick be able to replicate the kind of success that Deion Sanders found at Colorado?
