Dan Patrick Calls Out Kirk Herbstreit For 'College Football Playoff Bias'

Kirk Herbstreit might be one of the top analysts in college football, but he's not considered a fan favorite at this moment.
Herbstreit has been receiving plenty of backlash for his comments about certain teams that made the College Football Playoff. After Indiana got dismantled by Notre Dame in the opening round, he suggested the Hoosiers didn't belong in the 12-team field. The ESPN analyst said, "Indiana was outclassed in that game. They were not a team that should have been on that field when you consider other teams that could have been there."
When Oregon got blown out in the Rose Bowl, however, Herbstreit didn't throw any shade at the Ducks. He simply acknowledged that Ohio State was the better team that day. That has fans convinced that Herbstreit has a clear bias against certain programs.
Although he's not calling for Herbstreit's job like some folks, longtime sports radio host Dan Patrick made it clear that he doesn't love all the revisionist history he's hearing from college football analysts on TV. He even mentioned Herbstreit by name.
"I don't want to hear these analysts after the fact tell me that somebody shouldn't be in the Playoff," Patrick said, via Awful Announcing. "You know, when Kirk Herbstreit basically says, 'Indiana shouldn't have been here.' But Herbie wasn't alone; there was a lot of other people that said, 'Well, they shouldn't have been here.' OK. 'SMU shouldn't have been here.' OK. I'm not blaming SMU or Indiana. They did everything they were supposed to do. And tell me that before they get blown out — not after."
Herbstreit has not yet responded to these remarks from Patrick. In our opinion, Patrick hit the nail on the head. If you're going to be anti-Indiana or anti-SMU, say it from the jump. Don't wait for them to get embarrassed and then say the system is flawed.
Oddly enough, all four teams that received a first-round bye got eliminated from the CFP this week. Luckily for Herbstreit and the rest of the college football world, the semifinals should be electric.
Notre Dame and Penn State will meet in the Orange Bowl next Thursday. Ohio State and Texas, meanwhile, will square off in the Cotton Bowl. The national championship game will then be played on Jan. 20.
Hopefully, this controversial playoff format produces an epic national title game.
