The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Trend Sweeping The Nation (1:17)

There's no lengths people won't go to when trying to execute a solicitation scam over the phone.

Apparently, there are bad actors posing as representatives of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. These fraudsters are reportedly asking unsuspecting folks for money or personal info via messages on different platforms. The Cowboys' cheerleading squad has become aware of the issue, and addressed it in a statement on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, we have been made aware of recent scams that have been contacting our fans requesting personal and financial information," the statement said. "We would like to make it clear – The Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will NOT initiate contact with any person via text message, email, social media, or phone to request personal or financial information."

Apparently, the scheme promises some kind of Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders membership, which is not something the organization offers.

It also has tried to entice targets with the chance to secure an appearance from one of the squad members.

"Additionally, there is no membership with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders," the team said. "If you would like for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to appear at your event, you can request an appearance at https://dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/appearances/. There is no other way to request a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader appearance.

"If someone is contacting you via social media claiming to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader trying to set up an appearance and/or asking for payment directly, this is not legitimate. Please contact local law enforcement or the FTC (at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/assistant) to report the incident."

It's the holiday season. You don't want to be scammed, so take note of any suspicious activity when you come across it, and always double-check before giving away any kind of financial compensation or personal information.

Kudos to the Cowboys cheerleaders for stepping in here and getting the word out.
