JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. has an announcement to make this Wednesday that could excite NASCAR fans.

For the past few years, JR Motorsports has been linked to the NASCAR Cup Series, and yet, no expansion announcement has been made. That could all change this Wednesday afternoon. It's being reported that Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt Miller have news to share regarding the Daytona 500. That has people convinced that JR Motorsports could participate in the race on Feb. 16.

JR Motorsports could enter the field for the Daytona 500 through a "technical alliance." The other option is that an entry for the race is listed under another team's brand but the car is owned by the the Earnhardts.

As of now, Earnhardt's announcement is set for 4 p.m. ET. We'll find out then if JR Motorsports is gearing up for an entry in the Daytona 500.

Earnhardt has been awfully quiet of late about JR Motorsports possibly joining the Cup Series.

"We'll see what comes down the road. I'm almost feeling like that if I were to ever get involved in the Cup side, it would be like an investment — my personal monetary investment in something current," Earnhardt said in June 2024. "I would be open to talking to team owners about putting money into a particular singular charter and saying, "Hey, I'm going to park an investment here in this charter. I'm leaving that for my generations down the road, my girls and what have you." It wouldn't be anything other than that. So I don't know if we'll ever have JR Motorsports physically owning charters, running a race team operating every facet of that. I think that that ship has sailed."

The Cup Series would most likely welcome JR Motorsports with open arms. After all, the Earnhardt family is royalty in the NASCAR world.
