Dak Prescott Was Asked If He Thinks Mike McCarthy Should Return In 2025

Dak Prescott wishes he could help Mike McCarthy make a strong closing case to return to the Dallas Cowboys next season.
In the final year of his contract, McCarthy will look to earn a new contract without his star quarterback. A hamstring injury has sidelined Prescott for the season, but the Cowboys have won back-to-back NFC East matchups against the Washington Commanders and New York Giants.
Prescott, who signed a $240 million extension in September, endorsed his head coach sticking around in 2025. He would also like to see McCarthy gain more power within the organization.
"I believe in him wholeheartedly," Prescott told Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein. "I think he definitely deserves a chance at another contract and a chance to coach this team amongst more influence. 'On his terms' may be a good way to say it."
Prescott noted that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has already touted McCarthy's credentials as a Super Bowl champion. The 31-year-old wants to keep learning from the coach who led him to a runner-up MVP finish with McCarthy calling the plays in 2023.
"There's not many guys or coaches who have done that," Prescott added. "And to have one that can do it from experience, I know how valuable he's been for me."
Prescott called it "unfortunate" that he's sidelined as McCarthy is fighting for a new deal. He's aiming to "help and support Mike to every extent that I can."
"Your coach seems like he's playing on his last contract and [I'm] almost feeling helpless like I can't help him in this situation, especially a guy you believe in so much and you believe in being your head coach," Prescott said.
The Cowboys have gone 47-32 since McCarthy joined the team in 2020. He has five more games to extend a streak of three straight playoff games, but Dallas likely must win out and receive some outside help.
Dallas will play the Cincinnati Bengals next Monday night.
