DeMarvion Overshown vowed to return from a severe injury next season.
Overshown tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee during a Week 14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Dallas Cowboys linebacker underwent season-ending surgery and is expected to face a long road back to recovery.
However, Overshown insisted he'll return later this year.
"I'll be back playing football for sure in 2025, and it won't be in December," Overshown said, per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. "It will be before that."
Overshown missed all of his 2023 rookie season with a torn ACL. The third-round pick successfully returned to collect 90 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble, and a pick-six in 13 games.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old suffered another significant setback on his other knee last month.
"I don't know at this time the time-date on his rehab, but I just can't tell you how bad I feel for him because he's just been through that mental and physical rehab on his other knee," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after his latest injury, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "...It's the toughest time for a player. And we all see the loss and know what it's going to mean for us in our remaining four games. Bottom line is it's really sad that he's having to have this surgery for him as an individual and obviously us as a team."
Overshown expects to miss at least nine months, putting his availability in doubt to start the 2025 season. Yet he hasn't discussed a specific return timetable with the team.
"They know how I am. Don't tell me I'm going to miss the whole season or don't tell me I can play at the beginning of the season. Being me, I'm going to try and get there right now. It's kind of like last year, we get to nine-month period and see how I am."
The Cowboys ended their season at 7-10 following Sunday's 23-19 loss to the Washington Commanders. Overshown may return to a new coach if they don't extend Mike McCarthy's contract.
