Prayers For Dick Vitale (1:02)

Dick Vitale revealed some truly awesome news on Thursday.

The longtime college basketball broadcaster disclosed earlier this year that he was diagnosed with cancer for the fourth time. Vitale also battled lymphoma and melanoma in 2021, and his vocal cord cancer went into remission late last year.

Vitale said last week that he was awaiting a PET scan after 30 radiation treatments to treat a cancerous lymph node in his neck. On Thursday, fittingly during ESPN's annual V Week for cancer research, the 85-year-old shared that the tests showed he's cancer-free.

"Santa Claus came early as Dr. Rick Brown called & said that my PET scan at 7 AM came back CLEAN OF CANCER!" Vitale wrote, thanking everyone who sent their thoughts and prayers.

Vitale called the news "my National Championship" and said he's cutting the nets down" to celebrate. He posted a video encouraging everyone to donate to the V Foundation, with "Think positive" and "Have faith" written in all-caps and underlined on an accompanying whiteboard.

Vitale's announcement overjoyed supporters who congratulated him on social media.

"The best news of the day," SportsCenter anchor Kevin Negandhi said.

"Amazing news for an amazing person!" CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein said.

"Awesome, baby!" Kentucky Sports Radio's Tyler Thompson declared.

"I know that feeling of having to wait for Pet Scan results. It's awful," Dean Kriebel wrote. "Congratulations Dickey V!"

"I love this man! Get back on the sidelines soon," Frankie Saraceno urged.

The former head coach has worked for ESPN for over four decades. His infectious energy has certainly been missed on the network's college hoops broadcast.

Fans everywhere would love to see Vitale celebrate Diapy Dandies across the nation and cover a future NCAA tournament. Of course, his health remains the top priority.

Congratulations to Vitale on the tremendous update.
