College Football Writer Makes 'Bold' Prediction For Next Year's Title Game

The 2024 college football season came to an end on Monday night when Ohio State defeated Notre Dame in the national title game. Ryan Day's squad went on an incredible run in the College Football Playoff in order to reclaim its crown as world champions.
Although we're several months away from the start of the 2025 college football season, Ralph D. Russo of The Athletic has already unveiled his bold prediction for next year's national title game. As of now, he has Notre Dame getting back to the national championship. He's not predicting a rematch with Ohio State. Instead, he has LSU making it to the national title game for the first time since 2019.
On Thursday morning, Russo tweeted, "Just submitted a 'bold' prediction for next season of LSU vs. Notre Dame in the national championship game because 'Yes, ha, ha, ha. Yes!'"
The buildup to this game would be epic. When Brian Kelly left Notre Dame for LSU, he told reporters that he wanted "to be in an environment where I have the resources to win a national championship."
Kelly walked back his previous comments earlier this month. He's now claiming that he just wanted a different challenge.
"Why do you leave Notre Dame? You leave Notre Dame because you're taking another challenge. I took Notre Dame to championships. It's just the way you want to twist it: 'You only leave Notre Dame to go win a championship.' I wasn't leaving Notre Dame because I couldn't win a championship," Kelly said. "You can win championships at Notre Dame, but I chose another path because I wanted a different challenge."
If Russo's bold prediction comes true, we'll either see Kelly defeat his former team or he'll end up eating his words.
As for Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, he'd be a legend in South Bend if he defeated Kelly on the biggest stage of them all.
Either way, it's very clear that a national championship between LSU and Notre Dame would provide plenty of entertainment.
