College Football Fans Not Happy With Clemson vs. South Carolina Kickoff Time
11/18/2024 04:13 PM
Rivalry weekend is coming in college football, with several important games highlighting the schedule for the final Saturday in November.
One game where there will be bragging rights and more at stake is Clemson-South Carolina, a matchup of two ranked teams. The 8-2 Tigers, ranked 17th in the latest AP poll, need to win out to have a shot at the ACC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff, while the 7-3 Gamecocks, ranked 19th, are looking for their first regular season with nine wins since 2013.
Those storylines seem made for primetime, but this afternoon, it was announced that the Palmetto Bowl will kick off at noon ET on Nov. 30 from Clemson's Memorial Stadium. The last time Clemson hosted South Carolina at nighttime was 2018, and the next opportunity they will have to do so won't be until 2026.
The ACC and ESPN wanted to move the game to primetime on Black Friday, but Clemson refused.
Now, fans are not happy, and they're voicing their opinions on social media.
"Sharing a slot with Tennessee and Vandy.....yikes. guess they really wanted all prime time slots cleared for the cash cow of the Texa$/A$M game," one person said.
"First time since 2013 that both teams are ranked in this historic rivalry, and they decide noon is the best time. Absolutely horrendous," a Clemson fan added.
"How is this game not prime time and game day?" a second Clemson fan asked.
"This should be a 7:30pm kick and everyone knows it. BS @theACC @espn @ESPNCFB," a third Clemson fan chimed in.
"Best for CU. Get the loss over early and let the kids go home to their families and watch other real programs play football," a fourth (pessimistic) Clemson fan said.
Regardless of the kickoff time, the good news is both teams should enter this rivalry matchup coming off easy wins. Clemson hosts Citadel this weekend, while South Carolina will take on Wofford.
