College Football Fans Feel Awful For Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty

Ashton Jeanty's historic season for Boise State has come to an end, and in about as gut-wrenching of a way as possible.
Needing a little over 130 yards against Penn State's defense to break the great Barry Sanders' all-time single-season rushing record, Jeanty could only muster about a hundred as the Nittany Lions kept him in check and dared the Broncos to pass against them.
At the end of the game - and the end of Jeanty's season - he finished with 104 yards on the day and 2,601 yards on the season - a mere 27 yards shy of Sanders' record of 2,628 yards.

It's probably of no comfort that he becomes the second player in history to rush for 2,600 yards in a season.
10 days ago Jeanty was similarly forced to settle for second-place as Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy by the slimmest of point margins.
Ever since then, Jeanty has been getting no shortage of support and respect from fans hoping that he can at least break Sanders' record. But now his historic season and historic college football career is at an end. He's off to the NFL now, where he'll most likely be the top running back off the board and possibly even the highest-drafted in the last few years.
Fans have taken to X to offer their sympathies on today's rough ending:
"Jeanty, You did all you could tonight. It's hard to go more than 2 yards when they put 5-6 guys on the line. You shined this year, you made yourself a potential first rounder, and broke many records. This Boise State has so much star power and they will be just as good next year," one user wrote.
"Respect to Boise State. Incredible year and they fought like hell tonight. Jeanty's historic season comes to an end sitting at 2nd all-time on the season rushing list," wrote another.
"Bad day for us Jeanty bros :(," a third wrote.
As for Boise State, it's hard to tell what the future has in store for them. Jeanty is off to the NFL, head coach head coach Spencer Danielson is still sticking around for now, and the school will be leaving the Mountain West Conference for the revitalized Pac-12 Conference in 2026.
