College Baseball Star Apologizes For 'Inappropriate' Celebration

A college baseball player apologized for appearing to pantomime cocaine use on the field.
On Sunday, Michigan avoided a three-game sweep with an 11-0 victory over USC. Mitch Voit had a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs, and three RBI.
In the second inning, Voit cleared the loaded bases with a triple. After sliding into third, the All-Big Ten utility man seemingly pretended to snort the third-base line as if it were cocaine powder.

Voit issued a statement about the incident on Monday morning.
"I would like to apologize for my actions on third base yesterday," Voit wrote. "I made an immature decision in the heat of the moment. The gesture I made does not reflect my character, the household I was raised in, or the block M that I represent in any kind of way. I take full responsibility for what I did, and I am truly sorry for those who I have negatively impacted by doing this."
As he apologized for a controversial celebration, Voit had another reason to celebrate on Monday. The Big Ten named him the conference's Player of the Week after he collected 12 hits (five doubles) with 12 RBI over five stellar games.
Voit pitched in the previous two years, but focusing on hitting has worked wonders for the 6-foot junior. He's batting .451 (32-of-71) with a team-high 11 doubles, five home runs, and 1.390 OPS in 19 games this season.
The Wolverines are 11-8 entering Tuesday's matchup against Western Michigan at Ann Arbor. Fans probably shouldn't expect to see the same celebration if Voit extends his hot streak and returns to the basepaths.
