Chiefs Sign Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman Before Week 12 Game

The Kansas City Chiefs have added serious depth to their offensive line for the final stretch of the regular season.
FOX insider Jordan Schultz reported Friday night that DJ Humphries has signed a contract with the Chiefs. He referred to the former first-round pick from Florida as a "proven and versatile starter who can help Kansas City down the stretch." To be fair, he did start 98 games from 2016-2023.
During the 2021 season, Humphries was voted to the Pro Bowl. At that time, he was on the Arizona Cardinals. He was released a few years later due to his expensive contract.
Humphries suffered a torn ACL during the 2023 season. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, he has been medically cleared for action. Prior to signing with the Chiefs, he had a visit with the New York Giants.
Even though Humphries hasn't played all year due to his injury rehab, the Chiefs were confident enough to give him a pretty lucrative deal at this stage in the season.
"The Chiefs are giving former Pro Bowl LT DJ Humphries a salary that pays him $2M with a max value of $4.5M for the rest of the season in a deal done by AMDG Sports," Rapoport said. "Big money this time of year."
Humphries will join an offensive tackle group that features Wanya Morris, Jawaan Taylor and Kingsley Suamataia. At the very least, he'll give the defending Super Bowl champions a reliable backup in case one of their starters goes down.
There's also a scenario in play where the Chiefs allow Humphries to knock off the rust over the next few weeks to ensure he's ready to start in the playoffs. Besides, it's not like they're incredibly confident in Morris at the moment.
The Chiefs are 9-1 heading into this Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.
