There hasn't been a lot of clarity surrounding Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice and his knee injury. That's because he needs the swelling in his knee to go down before he can undergo more testing.

Rice, a second-year player out of SMU, had to be carted off the field last Sunday after Patrick Mahomes accidentally collided into his knee. It was a brutal scene to watch. Immediately after the injury occurred, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made it seem like Rice would definitely miss the remainder of the season.

Although there's some hope that Rice avoided a season-ending knee injury, the latest update on his status isn't very encouraging.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, there's some fear in Kansas City that Rice has damage to his ACL and PCL.

"One thing we didn't get to in TNF postgame (b/c of OT): Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is expected to have his knee scoped next week after the swelling goes down, per sources," Breer said. "There's fear of ACL damage, and also PCL damage. Docs will know more after going in and set a plan from there."

Rice was playing at a Pro Bowl level for the Chiefs, hauling in 24 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns through three games.

With Rice expected to miss an extended period of time, the Chiefs may need to lean on rookie wideout Xavier Worthy.

"We've got guys here that have experience of playing in the game," Reid said, via NFL.com. "It's not that he's the only one. He doesn't have to be the only one. We've got a good group of guys there that we can utilize. We normally spread the ball around, and that's what we'll continue to strive to do."

The Chiefs will face the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. That'll be a real test for Patrick Mahomes and this injury-riddled offense.
