Following the 2024 WNBA season, a handful of coaches were relieved of their duties, including Curt Miller from the Los Angeles Sparks.
Miller was fired as the head coach of the Sparks on Sept. 24. Nearly two months after his firing, Los Angeles has named its new head coach.
On Tuesday, Lynne Roberts was announced the head coach of the Sparks.
Shortly after the Sparks' announcement, young star Cameron Brink posted her reaction on social media.
She reposted the news on Instagram, while mentioning that she "can't wait" to play for Roberts.
"Played against coach for 4 years at Stanford!" Brink said. "Can't wait to play for her now."
Prior to accepting the job with the Sparks, Roberts spent time at the NCAA level. Her role with the Sparks will be the first time Roberts coaches at the professional level.
She started her coaching career at Seattle Pacific, where she served as an assistant coach from 1997 to 2002.
Roberts then served as the head coach at Chico State from 2002 to 2006, marking her first head coaching gig.
From 2006 to 2015, Roberts was the head coach at Pacific and then took her talents to Utah where she's been since the 2015 season.
Brink will likely serve as the cornerstone of the franchise after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Her 2024 rookie season was cut short due to an ACL injury, but the 6-foot-4 center was still able to show flashes of excellence.
While she was healthy, Brink led the league with 2.3 blocks per game. She also averaged 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
