Former MVP quarterback Cam Newton has been making his presence felt in a big way on ESPN's First Take when he's gone up against Stephen A. Smith. But his impassioned take on quarterbacks today left Smith stunned.
On Friday's edition of the show, Smith and Newton were discussing Saturday's game between Lamar Jackson's Baltimore Ravens and Russell Wilson's Pittsburgh Steelers. But when the topic got to Jackson in particular, Newton warned Smith to watch what he says about the two-time MVP.
"You must watch what you say about Lamar Jackson," "I'm taking Lamar Jackson over any other quarterback in the NFL. I love the critiques—I love the analytics—but he's the greatest quarterback in the game now."
"You must watch what you say about Lamar Jackson, and I don't appreciate it..." Newton said in all seriousness. "You gotta watch what you say about Lamar Jackson, because you ain't holding Josh Allen to the same standards... He's the greatest quarterback in the game right now."
Smith was flabbergasted and his face was practically frozen in amazement when he heard Newton start to argue that Jackson was a better quarterback than other MVP contenders such as Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
"Right now, I'm taking Lamar Jackson over any other quarterback in the NFL."

Fans in the comments on First Take's account on X were a bit mixed on that take. Some agreed and acknowledged that Newton knows what he's talking about while others disagreed for reasons varying from jealousy at Allen's success to him simply being wrong in their eyes:
"Lol I'll take Josh Allen over Lamar everyday of the week and twice on Sundays," one user declared.
"Not like it's some hot take. Cam knows ball," another replied.
"My money 💰 🤑 💸 is on Josh Allen. He's playing the best football of his career and he's not turning the ball over. He's fantastic," a third wrote.
"I agree with Cam. Lamar scores touchdowns and does his job. He ain't playing defense!" argued a fourth.
Jackson and Allen entered the NFL in the same year but Jackson is already a two-time MVP. Allen might cut into that lead soon though as he's firmly in the running for the 2024 NFL MVP award.
Who do you think is better?
