USC quarterback Caleb Williams has taken a lot of very overblown and often weird criticism in the months leading up to the NFL Draft. As the former Heisman Trophy winner prepares to be drafted by the Chicago Bears, another former Heisman winner has a message for Williams' critics.

In an interview with NFL Network's Kyle Brandt, Newton addressed the criticism of Williams for some of his personality quirks, specifically the "issue" of Williams painting his nails. He declared that Williams has the right to express himself however he wants and if he can win games then nothing else will matter.

"Being unique, we can't be hypocrites in America. You can't promote, you know, land of the free and then all of a sudden when somebody does something that makes them unique, you crucify him, right? I think really for us in this profession that we're in, Gen Z is here. And they're here to stay. So whatever a person does personally, should just matter, personally," Newton said.

"If it starts bleeding into their plate, then that's when you can care. But as I'm seeing these highlights of Caleb Williams… pink nails, red nails, the green nails, no nails. If you can play football and you can win football games in that locker room ,and for that franchise, nothing else matters."

Many fans have used the images of Williams either painting his nails or using a pink phone case to express homophobia or simply accuse him of not working hard.

Whether or not Williams succeeds in the NFL will come down to far, far more than how he dresses himself.
