Caitlin Clark Reminisces About Big Decision That Changed Her Career

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark silenced the naysayers when she took the WNBA by storm in her rookie year.
Before being drafted by the Fever as the No. 1 overall pick, many thought that her success in college wouldn't translate to the WNBA. But the exact opposite happened, as Clark won Rookie of the Year and led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. She was also an MVP contender.
Clark first became a nationwide phenomenon during her legendary time at Iowa because of her long-range shooting and dynamic style. She led the Hawkeyes to back-to-back finals in the NCAA Tournament and three Big Ten titles.
On Tuesday, Iowa assistant coach Abby Emmert Stamp reminisced about the moment exactly five years ago when Clark announced that she would play for the Hawkeyes.
"Just remembering how amazing my morning was five years ago to the day," wrote Stamp on X. "And no, @CaitlinClark22, it wasn't because the egg I cracked for my breakfast had two yolks!"
The 22-year-old Fever guard quickly responded to Stamp's post.
"Solid day five years ago," said Clark. "Feels like yesterday tho."
Joining Iowa changed the trajectory of Clark's career. She became the starting guard during her freshman year in 2020 and worked her way to become the team's main option in the succeeding years.
By the time she exited in 2024, she was a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, three-time Big Ten Most Outstanding Player and two-time Naismith College Player of the Year, just to name a few of her countless awards. Oh, she also became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history, both men's and women's.
Today, Clark is considered the face of the WNBA and continues to pave the way for other female players.
Safe to say, her decision exactly five years ago was the right one.
