The WNBA offseason is well underway, but women's basketball fans won't have to wait long to see some of their favorite players in action, as many of them will be competing in the Unrivaled Basketball League. All eyes have been on star Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. though, to see if she would play in the league's 2025 campaign.
The 2024 year was full of basketball for Clark, as she went from dominating at the collegiate level with the Iowa Hawkeyes to taking the WNBA by storm with the Fever. After the season ended, Clark indicated she'd take some time away from basketball, despite reportedly having a lucrative offer on the table from Unrivaled.
Clark never came out and said she would not participate in the 2025 Unrivaled campaign, but the writing was on the wall when the rosters were revealed on Wednesday and her name was nowhere to be found. Sure enough, reports have surfaced indicating Clark won't be participating in the upcoming Unrivaled season.
As reported by Michael Voepel of ESPN, "Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark will not play in the new 3-on-3 league Unrivaled in its inaugural season, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN on Wednesday."
While the rosters were revealed on Wednesday, there were two wild card spots being left open, so there was still a chance that Clark could have found her way onto a team if she wanted to. However, it doesn't seem like that will happen, with Clark reportedly turning down the offer.
Clark has been keeping herself busy this offseason without basketball, with her latest hobby seeing her make her professional goal debut in the LPGA's Annika pro-am event. And while she seems to have an enticing offer on the table from Unrivaled, it wasn't enough to get Clark to bite.
That doesn't mean Clark won't participate in the league in future seasons, but her hiatus from the game of basketball will continue for the next few months. However, it won't be long before she's back in action with the Fever when they return to the court for the upcoming 2025 campaign.
