When it comes to rookie seasons in the WNBA, it's difficult to top what Caitlin Clark did in 2024.
Clark was the No. 1 overall draft pick and ushered in a new era for the entire league, one that she's expected to be the face of. Clark lived up to the hype in her first season, leading the Indiana Fever to their first playoff appearance in nearly a decade.
She made the All-Star team, won the Rookie of the Year award and was the first rookie on the All-WNBA 1st team since Candace Parker in 2008.
It's hard to find a flaw in Clark's first season, but she says she was bothered by her experience at the WNBA Draft.
During an episode of the "Fresh Tawk" podcast, Clark explained her issue with how the draft was handled.
"I was so upset because after I got drafted I just got drug out immediately and I didn't get to see any of the draft," Clark said, talking to former Iowa teammates Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall and host Jada Gyamfi.
"I had my phone but I really couldn't go on it. It made me so upset. I didn't even get to see Kate get drafted...but it made me really upset."
Clark said that she didn't get a chance to take pictures with her friends, family or even her boyfriend that night because of how busy she was.
Martin attended the draft to support Clark, but ended up being drafted herself in the second round. Martin joined the two-time champion Las Vegas Aces this season, and quickly became a fan favorite for her smart, defensive-minded approach.
After a record-setting rookie season, the basketball world is waiting for Clark's next steps. She could choose to join the debuting Unrivaled league, which takes place during the WNBA's offseason.
She could also take a well-deserved break after continuous basketball for the better part of the last calendar year.
We'll see what Clark decides to do before she starts one of the most anticipated second seasons in WNBA history next year in 2025.
