5 Sports Records That May Never Be Broken (2:45)

Boise State and Penn State are minutes away from kicking off in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Fiesta Bowl.

The Broncos earned a bye to the quarterfinals thanks to their finish as the highest-ranked Group of Five champion. It's fitting that Boise State found its way into the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, and in the Fiesta Bowl no less, because the program's famous upset of Oklahoma in the same bowl game 18 years ago helped spearhead calls for a playoff system.

Before kickoff, Boise State's cheerleading squad went viral on Instagram with a team photo. The group is ready.

"We are ready to FIESTA! Let's Go Broncos 💙🧡🎉," the caption of the Bronco Spirit Instagram post reads.

For Boise State, tonight's game is a massive opportunity to further prove they belong on the biggest stage. A good showing from the Broncos could help calm some of the noise regarding conference champions receiving byes at the expense of more heralded Power Four programs.

The Fiesta Bowl is also a chance for BSU running back Ashton Jeanty to play in front of a larger audience. The runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, Jeanty rushed for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns on 344 carries.

"He's a beast," said Penn State head coach James Franklin. "He's a beast in terms of his production on the field but then also his durability. From the interviews I've seen, he's also a guy that kind of understands how to be a pro already at this point in terms of taking care of his body, rest and recovery and treatment and doing all the things necessary.

"I also think the way he's built and his running style helps with that as well. Not too many people are able to get clean shots on him. All of it is super impressive, but I think the stat that I mentioned earlier, the most impressive stat, is yards after contact. He's got more yards after contact than most of the elite backs in college football have in general."

Jeanty needs just 132 more yards to surpass Barry Sanders' single-season rushing record.

If he gets them all tonight, it's a great sign for the Broncos' chances of winning.

Boise State and Penn State will kick off momentarily on ESPN.
