Bills Sign Veteran Quarterback To Roster For Week 18

The Buffalo Bills already have one of the best quarterback rooms in the NFL thanks to Josh Allen, but it never hurts to add depth at that position.
With Buffalo's regular-season finale against the New England Patriots just two days away, the front office has decided to sign a veteran quarterback to its active roster. Moments ago, ESPN's Adam Schefter announced that Mike White will be available for the Bills in Week 18.
White has plenty of experience in the AFC East. He spent a couple of seasons with the New York Jets before agreeing to a deal with the Miami Dolphins. From 2021-2022, he threw for 2,145 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The Dolphins signed White to a two-year contract before releasing him after one season. White then joined Buffalo's practice squad in August 2024. It wasn't until this Friday that he got called up to the 53-man roster.
The Bills won't need White to be anything more than an emergency quarterback at this stage in the season. Mitchell Trubisky is their primary backup behind Allen.
Speaking of Allen, he won't see much playing time this Sunday against the Patriots. He'll just get to extend his consecutive starts streak before hitting the bench so he can rest up for the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
"One of the things that we know is very, very important to [Allen] is his consecutive starts streak, if you will, and it's important to him for a great reason," McDermott said. "He wants to be out there with his teammates and so he will be out there for a very, very short-lived amount of time and then he'll be off rather quickly there."
Trubisky will get the bulk of the snaps under center. The former No. 2 pick from North Carolina has 78 passing yards and a touchdown in limited action this season.
A win on Sunday wouldn't change much for the Bills. They're the No. 2 seed in the AFC regardless of this weekend's results.
If the playoffs were to start today, the Bills would host the Denver Broncos in the opening round.
