With Amari Cooper joining the Buffalo Bills on a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns, the Bills need to make space for their new Pro Bowler in the receivers' room. Today, the Bills made their choice.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bills are releasing two-time Super Bowl champion Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Valdes-Scantling joined the Bills as a free agent this past offseason but has only two receptions through six games.

"Source: The #Bills are releasing Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a move to create space for newly acquired Amari Cooper," Rapoport wrote.

Valdes-Scantling got his start with the Green Bay Packers, where he was one of Aaron Rodgers' top deep threats during his back-to-back MVP seasons.

In 2022, he signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chiefs and had a career-high 42 receptions as the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. His role was a little more limited in the 2023 regular season, but he came up big in the playoffs with three receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII.

The Chiefs released Valdes-Scantling just a few weeks after their Super Bowl win but the Bills signed him in May.

Time will tell if Valdes-Scantling is able to latch onto another 53-man roster this season or if he'll have to wait a while to see the field on gameday again.

As for the Bills, there's no denying that they've upgraded in a huge way with the addition of Cooper to their ranks.

The Bills offense was already potent enough. Now it might be downright explosive - and ready to contend for a Super Bowl.
